1. enough用作副同,當形容詞或副詞修飾語,必須後置。又如:
(1) He walks slowly enough. 他走得夠慢的了。
(2)This article is difficult enough to write. 這篇文章夠難寫得了。
在這條河裏游泳水夠深嗎?
(○) Is the river deep enough to swim in?
(○) Is the river deep enough for swimming in?
(X) Is the river deep enough that people can swim in?
口語中基於禮貌,我們常用類似於下面這樣的句型:
Would you be kind enough to open the window? (=Would you be so kind as to open the window?) 請你打開窗户好嗎?
2. enough用作名詞或代名詞,既可代表可數名詞,也可代表不可數名詞。如:
(1) Do you need more chairs? 你們還要椅子嗎?
No. I think there are enough to go round.不要了,我想夠用了。
(2) Enough has been said about this subject. 關於這個問題已説得夠多了。
Enough were present to constitute a quorum. 出席的人數夠法定人數。
3. enough用作形容詞時,可修飾可數名詞或不可數名詞,放在被修飾的名詞前或後。如:
(1) There are enough seats(seats enough)for them all. 有足夠的座位讓大家坐下。
(2) I have enough time (time enough) to finish the work. 我有足夠時間完成工作。
比較下面的句子:
(X)The beer isn't enough. 啤酒不夠。
(○) There isn't enough beer. 啤酒不夠。
(X) Was the time enough? 時間夠嗎?
(○) Did you have enough time? 你們時間夠嗎?
