詢問可能性 (Would…..)
Would it be possible for me to take the day off this Friday?
(這個星期五,我是否可以休一天假?)
請休假用take the day off。
Would是一種禮貌的用法,如果是兩天以上就用days off。老闆爽快答應就會說that'll be OK,有些遲疑就會說”Will everything be all right?”(一切都安排就緒了嗎?)。 -
提出建議 (I think/would suggest)
I think we need to buy a new printer.(我想我們需要買一台新的印表機。)
I think在這裡有緩衝作用,隨後可說明our printer has broken down again.(印表機又出毛病了)。
客氣一些,用suggest如I would suggest we buy a new printer. -
瞭解任務 (Yes, certainly.)
Yes, certainly.(是,我知道了)
這是最明確的回應,也可用I understand(我明白了),或Yes, right away(好的馬上去做)。對主管說OK,或 all right並不恰當,說of course更不禮貌。很忙沒有辦法執行任務,可以說I'm sorry, but I'm busy now. Could I do it later? -
確認事項 (didn’t you?)
You did say next Wednesday at 3:00 P.M., didn't you?(您是說在下星期二下午三點,是不是?) 中文少見"附加問句",但英文常常用附加問句,一來更委婉,二來是讓方加入你的談話中。
做事要確認,對外國老闆更是如此。直接一點,可以說let me confirm the schedule. (讓我確認一下時間) -
報告結果 (I have the feeling that….)
I had a feeling he was in favor of the plan.(我覺得他贊成那個計畫)
記住I have a feeling (that)...(我覺得……),及……(that ) he was against the plan.(他反對那個計畫)這兩句話都很管用。
